March is rubbish because…
I’ve been slack with my postings lately because so far it’s not been the greatest month in the history of months. I’m super-poor, super-stressed and super-ill. I’m not going to have a moan though, because frankly, that ain’t what this blog is about! Instead I’ll explain part of the reason why I’m super-broke. I have a ticket to Glastonbury Festival!!! And if that’s not a reason to get excited, I don’t know what is. Mud, cider, music, friends. Brill-o.
Out of the confirmed acts I’m obviously going to see Blur. Back in my teenaged years, about the same time I was reading Just 17, it was Blur’s heyday and the Oasis VS Blur battles ruled the NME headlines. I wasn’t really the right age to see them live and by the time I was they were on hiatus and I’d discovered metal. Basically, this is my version of Take That getting back together.
Speaking of bands back together, I have a not-so-secret hope that Faith No More might just play. There hasn’t been any rumours of them doing so. I am simply hoping based on two facts: 1. they’re back together and 2. they’ve said in an official press statement that they’ll be playing European festivals this year. Unfortunately, they’ve already confirmed that they are headlining Download (which friends have described as “Reading Festival, but for ugly people”) and there’s no way in hell I’m forking out for two festivals this summer. Still, I guess it’s sorta in the realm of possibility… isn’t it?
One band there is some faint whisperings of actually performing which would be sweet, is Sonic Youth. C’mon, you know they’d be amazing live.
I’ve noticed that there’s a lot of acts playing that one could refer to as “parent-friendly”. Bruce Springsteen for a start, Crosby Stills & Nash certainly. And the daddy of all, er, daddy bands Fleetwood Mac. I’m not ashamed to say I WILL be going to see Fleetwood. I’m also not ashamed to say I’m going to get very drunk and sing along loudly. Yes, I have no shame.
One act I will be steering clear from is Kubicle. Many moons ago (okay, last year) I worked at The Old Blue Last in Shoreditch and my most loathed shift was working the all-day techno-raves run by Kubicle. Really lovely people, really dreadful crowd. People used to be so smashed, still from the night before they would throw their money at me, and take an age ordering their drinks because they were too busy looking like they were chewing wasps. To be fair, they did use to leave fat tips by accident! The times they had Kubicle upstairs were the worst though, as the air conditioning was broke and it was always rammed full of sweaty, gurning rich eurotrash. They were times when it was hotter than the sun up there and I genuinely felt like I was in hell.
So whilst the snot clears from my fuzzy head and I think of slightly smuttier content to write on here, please feel free to leave suggestions as to what I should go and see at Glastonbury. Who knows, if I get enough comments I may even do a poll

I seem to recall seeing somewhere that Faith No More announced Download as their only UK date this year. Sorry. Although I think they’ll be doing a “proper” European tour next year. As for Download being reading for ugly people it’s not! It’s Reading for people over 16 who aren’t tools.
Arghhh where did they say that? This means I’ll have to pin my hopes on Sonic Youth being the wildcard of Glasto 2009 then. Re the whole “ugly” thing, I have never been been so I can’t pass judgement, I was just paraphrasing a friend who had been!
