super quick 1234 review

the rakes at 1234

(apologies for the bad picture, it was pissing it down all day and I was loath t0 get my newly fixed phone out in the rain)

1234 was probably one of the one of the worst festivals I have ever been to. And I paid too. I don’t blame them for the bad weather making it somewhat miserable. After all, Glastonbury frequently has bad weather, and everyone just gets on with it.

  • The *only* bar shut at 8. Never ever a good plan to leave people sans drinks whilst there is still music playing.
  • The line-up times and stages printed out differed wildly from what was actually happening at any given moment.
  • There just wasn’t enough other random little bits going on to keep people entertained between acts they actually wanted to see.
  • Not enough toilets so huuuuuuge queues.
  • Chrome Hoof played at the same time as The Rakes. Did no-one think there might be people who wanted to see both?
  • From what I heard the after-parties were shite as well and pretty empty. If anyone knows different do let me know!

I was really expecting this festival to be at least a little bit better than Lovebox last weekend (which was pretty boring to be honest- bar SMD live) and now I’m a little bit fearful of whether Field Day next week will actually be any good.

On the plus side, from what I saw Chrome Hoof were awesome, and The Rakes were good value for indie-money, as ever. Frankly, I saw loads of good bands but because of the line-up fuck-up I cannot say for sure who they were. One band I definitely remember seeing and actually knew who they were (thanks to kind friends) were Crystal Fighters. They were a fun, lively act, who got the crowd dancing and laughing. Yay them.

  1. Yep, it was like a car park with overpriced beer and a handful of bands, bit of a shambles.

It’s all about Offset Festival again this year. Last year it only took about 20 min for me to get there from Bethnal Green tube and the lineup looks great already. Sod Field Day as well, I’ve stood in too many toilet queues this summer :(

  2. Yeh Offset looks pretty good actually :)

I already have my Field Day ticket; the allure of Mogwai was too much! But if the toilet situation was anything like Lovebox then it shoooould be okay *fingers crossed*
    :D

  3. Crystal Fighters! Yes. My new favourites.

1234 was sheisse but i have hope for Field Day! – see you in the toilet queue again i hope! ;)
