F is for Field Day x Fear & Loathing

bloggers delight tent

For those who know me IRL (yeh, I used it, get over it) have had to put up with me on a pretty mammoth break-up bender and Field Day sorta feels like the culmination of that. I think the weekend’s debauchery pretty much broke me…

Rewind to Friday when I ended up at Dalston Superstore. First time I’d ever been there and despite it being one-in-one-out we got in pretty quick. Super-friendly bar-staff, nicely decorated, but hotter than the sun downstairs. After-party consisted of great company and great tunes. Basically FUN was had by all.

Sleep, however, was not. Managed to get to Victoria Park in one piece *and* meet up with friends. Who all had different tickets to me and one other friend so after agreeing we’d meet near the tent Aeroplane were playing at and call each other.

My friends held up their end of the bargain but sadly, O2 decided to fuck me over and not work for the entire day. So, on to Aeroplane. Who were AMAZING! And they managed to play out their Italo ’84 remix of Sebastian Tellier (unlike Holy Ghost! who managed to play NONE of their good tunes/remixes at Fabric *ahem*).

Saw a bit of The Horrors who weren’t anywhere near as frenetic and exciting as they have been on previous occasions and all in all that combined with the rain made them a mini-fail. Sorry guys.

Erol Alkan had the good fortune of playing in a tent which meant that everyone was hiding from the excess rain and rocking out hard in the Bugged Out tent. He killed it basically.

Any memories after this consist of stealing mini-carrots, running around laughing hysterically in the pissing rain past striped tents, some random girl called Rachel telling me about shitting in a Pringles pot (I mean, seriously, WTF), worst mojitos ever, and having to leave early- thereby missing Mogwai [sad face] because I was far too wasted and way too wet.

  1. Fun and and messy despite the rain….it’s becoming the Field Day way. They’ve come along way since the 1st disaster 3 years ago, still work to do on the sound though. If they can get that sorted……and if the poor bastards can catch a break with the weather, next year has the potential to be pretty fucking special.

Mogwai were alright by the way. Not worth missing fixing yourself.
