Arthur & Albert Magazine launch party

Saturday was the creation party for brand new magazine Arthur & Albert. As I’m doing a bit of writing for the mag now I was working on the door. Held at their studios in Shoreditch, it was guestlist only and the booze was free-flowing.
To give you a bit of insight on the mag, their ethos is “celebrate or ignore” which means they don’t waste their (or your) time telling you about shit stuff to, well, not waste your time on! With this in mind, only the most interesting and inspiring hidden gems of our fair city get to be featured. You can read a small sample of the mag online so check that out [here].
The party itself was suitably fabulous and full of hot boys. In fact at one point I remember remarking to super-hot blogger Mess Your Hair Up that the ratio of hot boys to hot girls (supermodels notwithstanding) was certainly in our favour. The sun was out and there was graf happening, DJs, bands and photo-shoots all served up in a friendly and wonderful atmosphere. Up and coming band Gaoler’s Daughter were also about to up the hot-boy contingent. Basically, A Great Day was had by all.
Admittedly I had moments of stress being on the door as a party like that will attract a lot of hanger-ons. So many people not on the list! Ugh. One set of boys tried to blag their way in with this:
Them: Oh hi, yeh, we’re not on the list but we’re friends with blah blah.
Me: Er, who’s blah blah?
Them: Oh well he’s a friend of such-and-such
Me: I have no idea who that is. So what you’re basically saying is that you are friends with someone who is friends with someone inside?!
Them: Yeh, he’s one of the painters…
Lots of people were looking at me incredulously that I was using the fact that their names were not on the guestlist as a reason why they were not allowed in the party! At one point someone remarked to me, whilst I was on the door, that it was “well gestapo in here.” Yes, a party in Shoreditch with a strict guestlist and free booze is exactly like the gestapo.
Anyway it was a rad party so if you’re London based keep your eyes peeled for hard copies of the mag and if you’re elsewhere then check the online version. x
